Trash Directory

Files and directories that are deleted using the JupyterLab interface are not permanently deleted. Instead they are moved to a trash directory located here:

$HOME/.local/share/Trash/files/

Files and directories deleted using the rm command in a terminal are not moved to the trash directory.

This can be helpful if you wish to recover a file.

Emptying Trash Directory

The data in the trash directory will count toward your home directory storage usage.

To remove these files, a you can run the following command in a terminal:

rm -rf $HOME/.local/share/Trash/files
